Steven Matz Ready for Return
- Updated: May 19, 2016
Rookie Steven Matz will retake his spot in one of the best rotations in baseball. This past weekend, the rookie was scratched from his start in Colorado due to forearm/elbow discomfort. He pitched six beautiful innings in Los Angeles last Monday, then the next day was said to experiencing some discomfort. It wasn’t any major soreness, but it caused enough pain for Matz to inform the trainers. Matz was examined by doctors in Manhattan this Monday, and they said all was good. Matz avoided a DL stint this time.
Steve will make his next scheduled start this Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers if everything goes as planned. Pregame Terry Collins said he threw a bullpen session today and all went well. So Matz is in-line to open the three game set with the Brewers.
Matz has been on a torrid stretch since allowing 7 ER and not even making it out of the second inning in his first start of the season. The rookie is 5-1 with a 2.86 ERA of the season. In the five starts since that nightmare first outing, Matz owns a 1.09 ERA. The kid will continue his push for his chance at the NL Rookie of the Year.
