It’s time for change

The UFC’s flyweight division is likely the most uncompetitive in mixed martial arts. Demetrius Johnson has reigned over the division for multiple years and his main competitors include Wilson Reis, Ray Borg, Henry Cejudo, Joseph Benavidez, and Tim Elliott. Unfortunately, all of these competitors have already been defeated in a fights against Johnson.

Any new riser is always someone to key in on, with a world of possibility ahead of them in the division and the ability to ask for a title shot after pulling off just a few high-profile wins.

After Nicolau’s convincing victory over Louis Smolka, he should move his way into the top 15 and begin to face some of the flyweight division’s mainstays.

If he can continue to sharpen his cardio, and maintain his striking strength/power, Nicolau, undefeated in the UFC in his young career, could find himself fighting for Mighty Mouse’s belt sooner rather than later.
